MELISSA covers nearly 6,000 square miles across the North East and North Cumbria regions, targeting remote, rural and hard to reach areas, alongside more traditional locations.  We are the only facility in the UK which offers training equipment, developmental and simulation opportunities on board a double decker bus.

We offer the facility to any staff involved in the delivery of care to patients, including NHS, private, social and charitable sectors across the regions - there are around 77,000 NHS employees alone in these areas!

MELISSA is proving to be an

At the moment, the facility

is available free of charge

to any organisation involved

in the provision of care to our regional

healthcare population to deliver

training, health campaigns, public

awareness events, conferences

and regional career events.

During our launch year, we had over 3,650 visitors who came on board the facility, trained almost 600 people from all areas of the healthcare economy and discussed NHS careers with 734 school children, aged 8-18.

​

Covering 3,238 miles in our first year, MELISSA is 33 feet long, 14'5" high and weighs nearly 14 tons, therefore the cost of operating a double decker bus is not cheap - replacing the tyres can cost £2,500!
